Hello, Dolly!

Orchestra audition schedule

Orchestra auditions will occur during late September and early October. You can request an audition appointment at musemachine.com (under the “Musical & Concert” tab, select “Info”).

Instruments needed

•Violin  •Viola  •Cello  •Bass

•Clarinet  •Flute  •Saxophone (alto)  •Saxophone (bari)  •Saxophone (tenor)

•Trumpet  •Trombone  •Tuba

•Drum Kit  •Various Percussion

•Guitar  •Banjo

* Reed doubling on selected instruments may be preferred but not required.

What to expect at the audition

Bring two contrasting selections from your solo repertoire (exercises do not count as selections). Where possible, choose  material  that highlights an understanding of style and/or demonstrates your ability to navigate groove changes. You’ll be asked to play all or portions of each. You will also be given material to sight-read. The audition will take approximately 15 minutes. Please note that this music requires a rather high degree of expertise (as do all Broadway musical scores). If you are still in the beginning stages of learning your instrument, it would be wise to wait until you are more experienced before you audition.

What to expect if you are selected

You will need to attend all weekly orchestra rehearsals (one evening a week beginning in late October) and performances.  A detailed schedule will be mailed with notification letters. This is a great opportunity to perform for full, enthusiastic audiences at the Victoria Theatre with only modest time comittment. The experience is rewarding and will compliment other instrumental opportunities.

Location of the auditions

The Muse Machine fourth floor studio in the Metropolitan Arts Center (next to the Victoria Theatre near the corner of First and Main Streets); 126 North Main Street, Dayton, Ohio 45402. Look for the burgundy awning which says “The Loft”. Call Muse Machine, 937-222-MUSE ext 401, for more info.
