Summer Institute for Educators 2018
What Jazz Can Teach Us: The Evolving American Cultural Identity
July 16-19, 2018
Metropolitan Arts Center
Join an expansive community of educators and world-class artists at Muse Machine’s 2018 Summer Institute for Educators! This year, educators and artists from New York City’s Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Jazz Power Initiative – Seton Hawkins, Eli Yamin, Dara N. Byrne, Alvin Atkinson, Jr. and Camille Thurman – and local artists Michael Bashaw, Eddie Brookshire and Lula Elzy return to inspire new creative opportunities in the classroom. Attendees will continue to explore the evolving American identity through the lens of jazz. All activities are designed for non-musicians and are linked to a wide variety of subjects. Attendance at previous Muse institutes is not required! Teacher attendees can earn 28 seat hours and/or three University of Dayton credit hours.
