Lion King Callback Auditions

If you have received a phone call or text message to attend the Muse callback audition on Sat, Oct 3 or Sun, Oct 4 at the Muse studio, please read this entire page.

If the team needs to see you for a callback audition, you will have received a phone call or text on Thursday with that invitation. Your message will have indicated a specific day and time.

• SAT 9:00am-2:00pm: callbacks (selected male performers)

• SAT 3:00-6:00pm: young cast callbacks (male & female performers)

• SUN 9:00am-12:00pm: callbacks (selected male performers)

• SUN 4:00-9:00pm OR 5:00-9:00pm: callbacks (female performers)

Most actors will be able to leave earlier than the scheduled end time. Because characters overlap and because some actors will read for more than one character, there is no way to know exactly when each person can be seen or released and we appreciate everyone’s patience. Parents are welcome to wait in a waiting area if they choose, or may come to pick up kids when called. If a student is told they are free to leave, they should stay upstairs with the group until a parent arrives and contacts their child to come outside to their car.

What to bring

• Dress comfortably.

• You may want to bring snacks.

• You may have some downtime, of necessity, and are welcome to bring homework.

What will happen at the audition?

• Actors will find out at the audition the character or characters for which they are being asked to audition. Some actors will receive a song excerpt for that character.

• All actors being seen for a particular character will be taught the song excerpt together and will then audition with that piece (for example, all the “Timon” auditionees will learn an Timon song excerpt and then sing it for us). When you are not in the studio singing, you will be in the hallway rehearsing your scenes.

• We’ll then run the related scenes with each actor. After each scene is complete, we will announce if any characters are free to leave, and those actors may leave or call parents to pick them up.

Three tips:

1. Perform each song and scene as if you were at the Victoria Theatre with a full audience — fully perform each piece in character!

2. If the creative team gives you direction, take it! This may seem obvious, but sometimes, we can all be nervous or inside our heads and although we understand the direction, we don’t always incorporate it. Try your best to reflect any directions you’re given.

What if I have to arrive late/leave early?

We created these sessions based on the availability schedules provided by performers that best suited the largest number of actors. In theory, there won’t be many conflicts (assuming the info everyone provided was correct, or that it was provided soon enough to use). But, if you need to arrive late or leave early…

First, let us know your different arrival or departure time via this link:

As we mentioned earlier, because there can be enormous overlap in which actors read different parts, and because scenes can involve multiple actors — and because multiple actors can have multiple, different conflicts — there’s no easy solution. We will try to accommodate you inasmuch as that is possible. We may not be able to return to re-audition material that someone missed.
