Cats Callback Auditions

If you have received a phone call or text message to attend the Muse callback audition on Wednesday, October 2, please read this entire page.

Additional callback auditions for selected characters for Muse Machine’s Cats occur Wednesday, October 2 from 4:30pm to 9:30pm. If the team needs to see you for this audition, you will have received a call or text on the preceding day with that invitation.

Most actors will be able to leave earlier than the scheduled end time. Because characters overlap and because some actors will read for more than one character, there is no way to know exactly when each person can be seen or released and we appreciate everyone’s patience. Parents are welcome to wait in a waiting area if they chose, or may come to pick up kids when called. If a student is told they are free to leave, they should stay upstairs with the group until a parent arrives and contacts their child to come outside to their car.

What to bring

• Dress in a way that allows you to dance comfortably.

• You may want to bring snacks.

• You may have some down time, of necessity, and are welcome to bring homework.

What will happen at the audition?

• Actors will find out at the audition the character or characters for which they are being asked to audition. Most actors will receive a song excerpt for that character. Some of the characters at this callback audition may be dance-only. Some will sing and dance.

• All actors being seen for a particular character will be taught the song excerpt together and will then audition with that piece (for example, all the “Tugger” auditionees will learn a Tugger song excerpt and then sing it for us). When you are not in the studio singing, you will be in the hallway rehearsing your scenes.

• After each scene is complete, we will announce who is free to leave, and actors may leave or call parents to pick them up.

Three tips:

1. Perform each song and scene as if you were at the Victoria Theatre with a full audience — fully perform each piece in character!

2. If the creative team gives you direction, take it! This may seem obvious, but sometimes, we can all be so nervous that we understand the direction but don’t always incorporate it. Try your best to reflect any directions you’re given.

What if I have to arrive late/leave early?

As we mentioned earlier, because there can be enormous overlap in which actors read different parts, and because scenes can involve multiple actors — and because multiple actors can have multiple, different conflicts — there’s no easy solution. We will try to accommodate you inasmuch as that is possible. We may not be able to return to re-audition material that someone missed.
